What Is The Difference Between Puffed Rice And Flattened Rice? | Is Poha Different From Puffed Rice?

Both poha and puffed rice (murmura) are made of the same ingredient – rice. But there is a huge difference in the making process and of course, also in terms of look, taste and texture. Puffed rice has a crunchy and airy texture; whereas, flattened rice is pressed and chewy.

To make poha, rice is parboiled, then rolled, flattened and sun-dried. On the other hand, puffed rice is prepared by washing rice, then parboiling and drying it completely. The rice grain is then tossed in a hot pan filled with hot salt.

Ingredients to make murmura poha:

To make the dish, we need murmura, tomato, onion, curry leaves, boiled potato, roasted peanuts, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.

Method to make murmura poha:

Heat oil, add curry leaves, onion, tomato, potato, peanuts, red chilli powder and turmeric powder, and cook everything together. Add murmura and salt to it and mix. And you have murmura poha ready to be relished.
